We had an incredible six-day tour throughout Omo Valley with Shigo! While we originally tried to go with a top-rated company, we never received responses to our emails, phone calls or WhatsApp messages. Reading reviews of that company, we found Shigo's name listed time and time again. Shigo is an incredible guide who was born in one of the tribes and had lived all his life in the area. He has personal connections with some tribes, and we were the only visitors in most of the tribes, either because they are the less touristy ones or because of his insistence to leave early and beat the crowds. You will love Omo Valley. You will love it even more if you choose Shigo as your guide!

My husband and I recently spent 5 days in the Omo Valley with a wonderful guide named Shigo Keyafer. We were so lucky to have found him! He's a local from the Bana tribe but speaks perfect English (and can converse with each of the tribes in their language too!). And because he's from the area, he not only has extensive knowledge about the tribes, their history and customs but also how to provide the most authentic experiences—via access to certain villages that aren't seen by all the other tourists doing the circuit. With him we visited the Arey, Mursi, Hamar (for the amazing bull jumping ceremony), Kara and Desanasch people. With Shigo, you don't have to pay-per-photo because he donates money to the village chief beforehand so you can take as many snaps as you want. I like to see local markets too so he took us to two different ones. He also arranged all the hotels, including Eco Omo Lodge which we highly recommend for lovely accommodations, amazing food and beautiful grounds. We also had requested a couple nights camping with the tribes but after one night that he very comfortably set up for us on the banks of the Omo River, we opted to spend the final night in a hotel and he didn't even charge extra. His price included a skillful driver (you need one on those dirt roads) and a lovely chef and local guides within each tribe's village. Shigo is very responsible and responsive—he always got back to us as quickly as possible. Honestly, we can't imagine anyone better to guide us through this extremely interesting corner of the world.

Last summer we spent over 8 days at Omo valley, this was an amazing place. Despite we had our own driver and guide, the best you can do is taking a local guide. Fortunately we met Shigo at banna market. He was the best guide anybody could to have. He is very professional (he speaks english properly and most tribale languages), he explained us a lot of things to make sure we understood local tribes customs, he came with us to markets and helped us to buy things talking about special items and negociating fare prices, he helped us to get a special item that we couldn´t buy in Ethiopia... as I told he is an experimeted guide very professional and very very friendly. If you go to Omo Valley ask for Shigo.
